Mary Lynn Carver Named Senior Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at UMMC and UMMS

Carver comes to Baltimore from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Mary Lynn Carver, a communications executive with extensive experience in health care, has taken the newly created role of senior vice president of communications and public affairs at both the University of Maryland Medical Center and its parent organization, the 12- hospital University of Maryland Medical System. In that role, she will lead the medical center’s communications department and manage communications and public affairs strategy for the medical center and the medical system.
“Mary Lynn is recognized nationally for her expertise in strategic communications and managing high profile, complex issues. She has led internal and external communications teams in the U.S. and abroad. We are very pleased to have someone with her broad experience at the helm of our communications initiatives,” says Jeffrey A. Rivest, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Carver has relocated with her family to Baltimore from Memphis where she was senior vice president of public relations and communications for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Before joining St. Jude, Carver held several leadership roles at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals for 11 years, including serving in London as the global head of internal and executive communications and leading the company’s Oncology brand public affairs strategy in the U.S.

Chrencik, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System (which includes the University of Maryland Medical Center). “We will rely on her for strategic communications advice and leadership and we are very glad that she has joined our organization,” says Chrencik.
Carver is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) where she earned their distinction as an accredited business communicator (ABC).
