Why Work Here
The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) serves more than one million patients and families every year. More than 29,000 employees and 4,600 providers work at UMMS.
Each and every one of these individuals – from the patients we care for, the family members we reassure to our colleagues that we champion – represent the amazingly vibrant communities we serve.
And we continue to seek out qualified candidates who reflect the values, backgrounds and stories of our neighbors and patients. We want to hear your voice, learn from your experiences and be shaped by your insight as part of our workforce.
After all, when we come together from different walks of life, we become stronger, better and more empathetic.
Demonstrating Our Commitment
- To better support the communities in which our team members live and work, UMMS committed to increasing its minimum wage to $15 an hour – three years ahead of when our state plans to increase the minimum wage. This increase is part of a holistic commitment made by UMMS in support of its team members.
- To strengthen connections within our communities and attract a highly qualified workforce, UMMS has pledged $5.1 million to recruit registered nurses and other clinical bedside experts from community colleges in the areas we serve. The program grants new hires in certain roles $5,000 to $12,000 once they fulfill specific requirements.
- We have created a System-wide mentorship program that matches mentors with mentees at all levels.
- UMMS is dedicated to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce. By 2024, our leadership will be comprised of 40% people of color, and we will put into place programs to help us to better retain our minority workforce.
