Glen Burnie, Md. (December 10, 2021) – University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) is partnering with The Salvation Army Central Maryland Angel Tree program to donate gifts to children in Anne Arundel County this holiday season, with hospital team members adopting more than 135 Angels, the largest number of adoptions from any company in Anne Arundel County.
This week, over 500 hundred gifts were provided to local children, ranging from full-size basketball hoops to over a dozen scooters. Two pickup trucks, three SUVs and two cars were filled with Christmas gifts, which were dropped off at The Salvation Army Service Center in Glen Burnie.
The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program started in 1979 and it provides Christmas gifts to millions of disadvantaged children in the nation. Local community members purchase gifts, such as new clothing and toys, which are distributed to the child's family to give to them on Christmas Day.
"I am truly honored to be able to contribute to such an incredible program," said Kathy McCollum, President and CEO of UM BWMC, and one of the hospital's many Angel Tree donors. "To see the tremendous turnout we had from our team members shows our genuine commitment to impacting the lives of those in our local community. I am so proud to work alongside such a selfless and caring group of individuals, not only during the holiday season, but each and every day."
