Supporters Provide Hot Meals for Hospital Employees

Glen Burnie, Md. (April 22,2022) – Two local businesses partnered to provide hot meals to University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) employees on April 22 to thank them for their hard work and dedication throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

This initiative was spearheaded by Kevin Butler, a member of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors and president and CEO of 4Bridges Commercial Capital, and the meals were provided by Kooper's Tavern in Baltimore. The Kooper's Chowhound Burger Wagon arrived on campus to provide burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fries to 250 of UM BWMC employees between 11 and 1 PM.

"Extending a 'thank you' by providing lunch to the staff and front line workers at UM BWMC was an easy decision," said Butler. "I want them to know that we appreciate the sacrifices they make every day, especially during this pandemic. Their dedication, commitment and courage deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. Their service to patients is saving countless lives and making a difference."

In January, the BWMC Foundation launched the Help Our Heroes campaign as a way for community members to show appreciation for those on the UM BWMC frontlines. So far, the support received has helped to feed over 2,000 employees, provided snacks and stock breakrooms for over 13 departments, allowed seven food trucks to campus, and equipped our Zen Dens with self-care items and activities.

"Though we are returning to normal activities, health care workers are still recovering from the last surge and the pandemic overall," said Kathy Burk, Vice President and Executive Director of the BWMC Foundation. "We are extremely grateful for the support that we continue to receive from the community and business leaders. It is making a difference in boosting the morale and resolve of our team members."
