Early Screening for Lung Cancer
UM Capital Region Health offers screenings for the early detection of lung cancer, which can lead to safer treatment options and increased survival rates.
The screening is done by a Super-Dimension Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB) system, which is a minimally invasive, advanced technology.
ENB is an extremely safe, efficient procedure lasting approximately 60 minutes. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recommends the following criteria to screen for the early detection of lung cancer:
- Adults between ages 55 to 77
- Showing no signs or symptoms of lung cancer
- Tobacco smoking history of at least 30 years
- Smoker or previous smoker that quit within the last 15 years
