Nursing Residency Program Curriculum
The Nurse Residency Program at University of Maryland Capital Region Health uses an evidence-based curriculum administered by Vizient and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
The program is committed to ensuring that all resident students are equipped with the tools and hands-on experience they need to be successful in the workforce.
The curriculum focuses on:
- Knowledge for nursing practice
- Inter-professional practice
- Person-centered care
- Leadership and systems-based practice
- Development of the professional nurse
- Nursing quality and safety
- Scholarship for nursing practice
The NLNRP provides the opportunity to work in the 2nd busiest regional Level II Trauma Center in a variety of nursing specialties:
- Behavioral Health
- Cardiovascular Center
- Critical Care (ICU, CVICU, CVC/IMC)
- Emergency Department (Largo, Bowie, and Laurel)
- Labor and Delivery
- Medical-Surgical (General, Ortho, Trauma)
- Observation
- Surgical Services (PACU, OR, Robotics Program)
- Special Care Nursery
By the end of the program, University of Maryland Capital Region Health goal is for nurses to feel confident in their abilities to:

*Please Note - The Nurse Residency Program has minimal focus on technical skills! Most skills will be taught and/or developed within your clinical environment.
