The University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System, is proud to announce that it has once again been recognized for its outstanding health care services. The hospital has been honored with the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke GOLD PLUS award, including the Targets: Stroke Honor Roll and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll by the American Heart Association (AHA). Additionally, UM Charles Regional has been recognized as a high-performing hospital for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) care by U.S. News & World Report.

The AHA’s Get With The Guidelines program evaluates hospitals on their adherence to the most current, evidence-based guidelines that aim to improve patient outcomes. UM Charles Regional’s Stroke GOLD PLUS award, along with the Targets: Stroke Honor Roll and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, highlight the hospital’s exceptional performance in delivering stroke care. These awards reflect the hospital's rigorous standards in medication administration, patient follow-up, and ongoing education efforts to reduce recovery times and prevent readmissions.

These latest accomplishments come after years of success for the hospital's Diabetes Education and Primary Stroke Center. UM Charles Regional earned the Stroke Gold Plus award in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, consistently demonstrating the hospital team’s commitment to excellence in stroke care.

High Performing in COPD Care

In addition to the AHA awards, UM Charles Regional has been recognized as a high-performing hospital for COPD care by U.S. News & World Report. This designation is given to hospitals that excel in treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), demonstrating superior outcomes, patient safety, and satisfaction.
