About Me
April Rectanus is a licensed clinical professional counselor. She is also the director of The Care Clinic, which is a part of the Center for Families at University of Maryland, Baltimore.
In addition to helping children, teens and adults in outpatient settings, Rectanus has experience helping severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and their families at residential facilities. Her work has consisted of providing individual, group and family therapy; case management services; and crisis intervention. She also has some direct care experience.
Rectanus has several years of experience working with maltreated children and their families. She has extensive training on trauma and related topics. She incorporates play therapy and cognitive-behavioral approaches in her work. She has also provided training and supervision to other clinicians.
Since 2007, Rectanus has worked at The Care Clinic, a free, grant-funded program that provides comprehensive and evidenced-based treatment to children and families who have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse or trafficking, neglect, and exposure to intimate partner violence (services include evaluation, counseling, case coordination and advocacy).
