Alice Chung Cootauco, MD

Dr. Cootauco is a maternal fetal medicine specialist with expertise in fetal diagnosis and management of maternal and pregnancy complications. She is director of the Perinatal Center at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.

Dr. Cootauco has special interests in fetal echocardiography, cervical insufficiency and intrauterine growth restriction. She is skilled in:

• Amniocentesis (medical procedure used primarily in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections)
• Cerclage placement (a procedure done prior to or during pregnancy to prevent premature birth due to a weakened cervix)
• Chorionic villus sampling (a type of genetic test performed during pregnancy that can detect if the fetus has certain health conditions)

Dr. Cootauco received her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed her residency in gynecology and obstetrics and fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
