Amoreena Howell, MD, MSPH, FAAFP

Dr. Howell enjoys practicing full-spectrum family medicine focused on the whole patient and their family. Her clinical interests are obstetrics, inpatient medicine and outpatient procedures.

Dr. Howell is also passionate about resident physician education. She is an associate program director and director of inpatient medicine for University of Maryland Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency program. After attending University of Virginia School of Medicine, she completed the Family Medicine Residency program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Following her residency, Dr. Howell taught in the Family Medicine Residency Program at University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill while earning her master's degree in public health, specializing in maternal child health, which remains her primary clinical interest. During her last year at Chapel Hill, she completed UNC’s Faculty Development Fellowship.

Dr. Howell spent more than five years at Unity Health Care (Washington, D.C.), which serves an ethnically diverse, primarily immigrant and underserved population. While at Unity Health Care, she continued to teach in the Georgetown University Family Medicine Residency program. She was part of the founding faculty of Unity Health Care’s National Family Medicine Residency, established in 2013.

In 2017, Dr. Howell joined the faculty at University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she continues to teach residents and students in an underserved setting.
