About Me
A primary care physician, Dr. Delapenha mostly sees patients in clinic and occasionally cares for hospitalized patients. He is invested in building strong relationships with his patients, serving as their health advocate and helping them make informed choices about their health. He is deeply committed to keeping patients healthy, prioritizing preventive care to help them avoid future hospitalizations.
Dr. Delapenha believes in a patient-centered approach that involves attentive listening to concerns. He prioritizes helping patients understand the importance of their prescribed medications and the long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Additionally, Dr. Delapenha wants to help improve diversity, equity and inclusion within the field of medicine. He has strong interests in transitions of care (the coordination of health care for a patient as they move between health care settings or to home), population health and health care access.
In addition to his patient care role, Dr. Delapenha teaches residents in outpatient and inpatient settings. Following his residency, he spent two years working as a hospitalist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center before joining the faculty at University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2022.
