Carol Lynn Greene, MD

A geneticist, Dr. Greene specializes in clinical genetics and genomics. She has particular interests in inborn errors of metabolism (rare genetic condition in which the body cannot properly turn food into energy), newborn screening and public policy.

Dr. Greene is director of the genetic teams providing clinical genetic services (including general genetics services, combined services for cardio-genetics for children and adults, and the combined hematology-oncology-genetics service for children) for children and adults at University of Maryland Medical Center. She and her team offer the full range of clinical genetics services for diagnosis and management of genetic conditions. The program's "philosophy of care" is to work in collaboration with patients, families and other providers to provide excellent patient/family-centered care.

Dr. Greene is also medical director of the Master's in Genetic Counseling Program at University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is a past president of the Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders. Her public policy experience includes a year working for the Committee on Health, Labor and Pensions of the United States Senate in 1999 as a Congressional Fellow, followed by four years with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as an analyst in the Office of Science Policy of the Office of the Secretary/Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. In addition, she spent more than a decade working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on quality improvement for genetic testing, including service on the CDC/CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) Advisory Committee for the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act. She also serves as an ad hoc advisor to Baby's First Test, the nation's resource center for newborn screening, and the State of Maryland Committee on Genetics.

For decades, Dr. Greene has been recognized as an outstanding clinician by multiple publications and organizations.
