About Me

Dr. Bhati is a multi-organ transplant surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Also, he is the Surgical Director of Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Along with his expertise in liver transplant, living donor liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery and renal transplantation, he is one of few surgeons who performs transplant and liver cancer-related surgeries robotically.

Dr. Bhati has been funded by Center for Clinical and Translational Research and is actively involved in improving access to transplantation in obese end-stage liver and kidney disease patients. The kidney donor and kidney transplantation surgeries he performed using the robotic approach demonstrated significant advantages for obese patients. He also explores the newly emerging field of transplant oncology and has performed liver transplantation in patients with colorectal liver metastasis, neuroendocrine tumors, and cholangiocarcinoma.
