About Me
Why did you pursue a career in medicine, and why did you choose your particular specialty?
Hard to say why I went into medicine but can tell you I was drawn to the field and nothing else came close. I eventually decided on urology because at the time there was very little known and understood about the cancers we deal with. For the past twenty-plus years, I dealt mainly with prostate and kidney cancers.
What types of conditions do your patients have, and what kinds of patients do you see?
In 2002 I started getting heavily involved in cryosurgery for kidney and prostate cancer. This is an outpatient minimally invasive procedure that kills the cancer with pressurized argon gas delivered with millimeter precision through a series of needles. Recovery is very quick, and cancer cures are equivalent to other available treatments with fewer side effects. Cryo surgeons are not readily available all over the country, so patients often do not hear anything about this option. I have been doing these procedures for 20 years and I am nationally recognized for my work in the field.
Do you perform any particular procedures or practice in any centers that you'd like to highlight?
I have been fortunate to have worked for more than a decade at one of the top medical centers in the country, as a referral source for minimally invasive prostate cancer therapy as well as radiation failure prostate cancer therapy. Providing these treatment options is challenging and I am fortunate to have almost 20 years of experience and numerous publications that have shaped this area of medicine. I am also a cancer nutrition specialist and have been running cancer nutrition clinics for the past 9 years. This is an integral component of cancer care that can no longer be ignored.
Why do you think patients should come to you and your team for treatment—what are some differentiating factors?
All the patients that I see receive the same attention regardless of their issues. I typically call patients with test results as soon as they appear on the computer and no messages are left unanswered at the end of the day.
Have you received any major awards or do you belong to any societies that you'd like to highlight for your new patients?
I have been listed as Top Doctor numerous times over the years both in Seattle and Cleveland, Ohio. I have been interviewed on TV a number of times, I have published dozens of scientific manuscripts and book chapters, and spoken at 75 medical meetings over the years all in an effort to improve patient care. I am a member of the American Urological Association, the Mid Atlantic Section of the American Urological Association, and was a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology for 20 years.
