About Me

Dr. El-Metwally has been a tireless advocate for babies born to mothers struggling with opioid addiction. She led the development and foundation of the Drs. Rouben and Violet Jiji Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital, the largest level IV NICU in Maryland. She has gained national and global recognition for her expertise in NICU design.

Dr. El-Metwally is a clinical co-founder of the Substance Use in Pregnancy Center of Excellence at University of Maryland School of Medicine. She was named a “Top Doctor” in the specialty of neonatology by Baltimore magazine 2016-2017 and 2019-2020.
