Emily Ya Xiao, MD

Dr. Emily Xiao believes that all patients should be treated with respect and always considers a patient’s preferences when formulating a treatment plan. This compassionate ideology was recognized early in her medical training when she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society while in medical school at Albany Medical College. Following this, Dr. Xiao completed Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residencies at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. She was also a Cardiovascular Disease Fellow at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Xiao’s background in pediatrics has also strongly influenced her emphasis on providing family-centered care. Her pursuit of the medical field was a unique intersection of science and being able to guide patients through their most challenging moments. Specifically, her interest in cardiology, a multifaceted specialty that treats a wide range of disease processes from heart failure to electrical disorders, has evolved dramatically over the last decade – especially as advancements in medicines, imaging modalities, and interventions have expanded.
