About Me
Dr. Magesh Sundaram is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. At UM Capital Region Medical Center, Dr. Sundaram is the Medical Director of cancer services and the Director of Surgical Oncology at UM Capital Region Health. He completed his general surgery residency training at ChristianaCare in Delaware and then completed an accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is the recipient of several educational and career achievement awards. Dr. Sundaram has served in several leadership roles in surgical oncology and surgery within academic and community healthcare systems.
His clinical expertise is in treating malignant and benign diseases of the breast, skin/soft tissue, endocrine, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and hepatobiliary. He performs both minimally invasive and standard advanced complex surgical oncology procedures, including esophagectomy, gastrectomy, the Whipple procedure, distal pancreatectomy, colon cancer resection, melanoma and sarcoma radical resections, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and regional lymph node dissections.
Dr. Sundaram recognizes that cancer is the most important healthcare issue a patient may face in his or her lifetime. He is passionate about providing high-quality surgical care as part of a cancer patient’s journey to a successful outcome. He regularly visits prominent cancer centers nationwide to evaluate and accredit programs in their cancer care delivery. As the medical director of The Cancer Center at UM Capital Region Health, he brings expertise and leadership to drive the success of our multidisciplinary cancer care services for Prince George’s County residents and the surrounding region.
