About Me

Dr. Vyfhuis is a radiation oncologist who uses radiation therapies to treat cancer. She is experienced in treating all types of cancers but has particular interests in lung cancer, breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and sarcomas. She also specializes in palliative care radiation oncology.

Dr. Vyfhuis is specially trained in many radiation therapies, including:

  • Proton therapy
  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
  • Brachytherapy

Dr. Vyfhuis uses the latest technological advances to treat her patients, including proton therapy done at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center. She is dedicated to advancing the field of radiation oncology.

Dr. Vyfhuis received her post-graduate doctorate and medical degrees from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Vyfhuis went on to complete an internship in internal medicine and her radiation oncology residency at University of Maryland Medical Center.

Dr. Vyfhuis is chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She is also an active member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and is actively involved in the Committee on Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (CHEDI).

A Maryland native, Dr. Vyfhuis enjoys spending time with her family, running and practicing Wushu in her free time.
