About Me
As a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Newton often sees patients with diabetes. She also helps patients dealing with other kinds of endocrine disorders, including those related to growth, puberty, thyroid issues and adrenal problems.
"My goal for my patients is just that they live their best and their happiest lives and be as healthy as they can possibly be with whatever endocrine disorder they have," Dr. Newton says. "I want to help them be able to participate in all the activities and events they enjoy and, most importantly, stay out of the hospital."
Dr. Newton treats conditions including Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, short stature, and early and late puberty. She maintains a clinical focus on improving glycemic control in children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, especially in high-risk populations and underserved communities. She has special interests in identifying health care disparities, increasing diversity in medicine and medical education, and addressing social determinants of health and their impact on patient care.
Dr. Newton is the division chief of pediatric endocrinology and chair of the Pediatric Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council for the Department of Pediatrics at University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Dr. Newton has been recognized as a "Top Doctor" by Baltimore magazine on several occasions.
