About Me
Dr. Dona is a sports medicine/physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. His clinical interests include:
- Sport-related concussion management
- Diagnostic/point-of-care ultrasound imaging
- Diagnostic and therapeutic peripheral nerve blocks (used to pinpoint and treat nerve pain)
- Hydrodissection (used to treat compressed or restricted nerves)
- Percutaneous ultrasound-guided needle tenotomy (a treatment for tendon-related pain)
- Trigger point injections (for muscle pain treatment)
- Ultrasound-guided injections (for pain relief)
- Viscosupplementation (for arthritis treatment)
- Regenerative medicine/platelet-rich plasma
- Ultrasound-guided procedures for calcific tendonitis (a procedure performed to remove excessive buildup of calcium deposits, which can lead to pain in areas such as the shoulder)
- Adhesive capsulitis/frozen shoulder
To achieve the best possible outcomes, Dr. Dona takes what is called a multimodal approach — the combining of different therapies — to managing orthopedic injuries and conditions. This approach may include lifestyle changes by the patient, physical therapy, concussion management or ultrasound-guided procedures. Using proven treatments, he strives to improve the quality of life of each of his patients.
Dr. Dona has served as a medical consultant for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) and the New York Red Bulls Academy with Major League Soccer (MLS). Most recently, he served as an associate team physician for NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Currently, he is recognized as a preferred medical provider by the United States Soccer Federation and has served as a volunteer team physician at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
