About Me
Dr. Shanahan is a general cardiologist and certified cardiac device specialist. He treats a number of heart conditions, including hypertension, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease (CAD). However, he much prefers preventing heart disease to treating it. He loves to work one on one with patients to help them make meaningful changes in their health that will improve their heart health.
Dr. Shanahan has been practicing on Maryland's Eastern Shore since 2006 and is the medical director of UM Shore Medical Group (UM SGM). Among the procedures he performs are stress testing, echocardiograms and heart monitoring.
UM SMG Cardiology has developed state-of-the-art cardiac care, delivered in the Eastern Shore community. The partnership with the University of Maryland allows UM SGM to provide a higher level of care that is always delivered with compassion.
"We do our best to treat each and every patient as if they were our own family member," says Dr. Shanahan.
Dr. Shanahan earned his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in cardiology at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
When not a work, Dr. Shanahan enjoys water activities and spending time with family. "The Eastern Shore has afforded me the opportunity to combine my personal interests with my professional aspirations. I consider it an honor to be part of this wonderful community," he says.
