About Me

Elizabeth "Betsy" Shearer is a nurse practitioner. She is highly experienced in caring for patients dealing with neurosurgical conditions.

"Leading from the heart defines my treatment philosophy," she says. "I recognize the emotional weight and uncertainty that often accompanies neurosurgical diagnoses, so I focus on meeting my patients where they are in their health journey to foster a safe environment for open communication."

During her career, Shearer has evolved from a dedicated bedside nurse to a doctoral-prepared nurse practitioner. She has a passion for diagnosing and effectively managing intracranial neurosurgical conditions. Her clinical interests include cerebrovascular conditions, brain tumors, and therapeutic interventions for conditions like epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.

Dedicated to continuous learning, Shearer has spent her career working at world-renowned academic medical centers. She is thrilled to be a member of the University of Maryland Medical Center team. Her primary goal is to provide patient-centered care. She navigates the complexities of her patients' diagnoses with empathy and a commitment to individual attention.

"I believe that a patient's neurosurgical journey requires more than just clinical expertise," Shearer says. "I aspire to be a compassionate guide, offering unwavering support to patients and their families as they navigate decisions and treatments for these complicated health conditions."

Shearer is deeply committed to not only treating conditions but also empowering and supporting patients and families in providing neurosurgical care.
