About Me
Katherine O'Brien thoroughly enjoys caring for women at all stages of life. Often, she first sees her patients for routine gynecologic care and continues caring for them throughout pregnancy, childbirth and their menopausal years. She offers counseling as well as prescriptions for all forms of birth control, including intrauterine device (IUD) insertion, Nexplanon and diaphragm fitting.
O'Brien has been practicing in the field of obstetrics and gynecology since 2005. She believes strongly in the ability of a woman's body to heal when the proper support is provided. Treatments she often prescribes include acupuncture, chiropractic care, endocrinology care, nutrition consultation, pelvic physical therapy and talk therapy. She defers to lifestyle changes as a first line over pharmaceutical drugs whenever possible. She believes a multidisciplinary model of care serves women best and honors the depth of knowledge in both Western and Eastern medicine.
O'Brien views each woman as a whole person, acknowledging the effects that environmental exposures, past trauma, life stressors, nutritional status, movement and self-care can have on their health. She places a high expectation on each woman to be an equal partner in their care, share in decision-making and make the necessary lifestyle changes when their body is out of balance.
O'Brien received her master's degree in midwifery from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
