Katrina Roux-Bernstein is a distinguished acute care and critical care medicine nurse practitioner. She specializes in pulmonary hypertension, COPD and smoking cessation. Her specialized expertise in pulmonary hypertension includes a particular focus on both acute (sudden) and chronic (long-developing) pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Roux-Bernstein's experience includes evaluating and treating patients across all World Health Organization (WHO) pulmonary hypertension groups, which allows her to take a comprehensive and nuanced approach to care. Roux-Bernstein leads University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center's (UM BWMC) Acute Interdisciplinary Care Model to Improve COPD (AIR-COPD) Outcomes program. The program received the 2023 Minogue Award for Patient Safety Innovation from the Maryland Patient Safety Center for its success in reducing unnecessary hospital readmissions related to COPD.
