About Me

A nurse practitioner, Kelley Stefancik specializes in neurosurgery. She has a passion for holistic health care. Since April 2008, she has been an integral part of the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) Spine and Neuroscience Center in Glen Burnie, where she has established herself as a key member of the neurosurgical team.

At the Spine and Neuroscience Center, Stefancik works closely with surgeons, providing comprehensive care for brain and spine surgery patients. Recognizing that effective treatment extends beyond addressing physical symptoms, her approach to patient care is deeply rooted in a holistic philosophy that also considers the patient's emotional, mental and social well-being.

"I believe that true healing involves treating the whole person, not just the disease," Stefancik says. "In neurosurgery, we're dealing with conditions that can profoundly affect every aspect of a person's life. My goal is to provide care that addresses not only the physical challenges but also the emotional and social impacts of neurological conditions and their treatments."

Stefancik's responsibilities span the entire patient journey, from pre-operative preparation to post-surgical care. She expertly evaluates new patients, orders appropriate diagnostic testing, and develops treatment plans that consider both surgical and non-surgical options. Her holistic approach is particularly evident in her patient education efforts, in which she provides crucial pre- and post-operative guidance that addresses not only medical concerns but also the broader impact of surgery on patients' lives.

In line with her holistic healthcare philosophy, Stefancik excels at coordinating care with experts in other medical specialties, ensuring that all aspects of a patient's health are considered in their treatment plan. She believes that this integrated approach leads to better outcomes and a more satisfying healthcare experience for patients.

Beyond her clinical duties, Stefancik has demonstrated leadership in her field. She currently chairs the Advanced Practice Provider Council at UM BWMC and sits on other University of Maryland Medical System leadership councils as well as on a regional leadership council, reflecting her commitment to ongoing professional development in advanced practice nursing. Her expertise is built on a strong educational foundation.
