About Me
Lindsey A. Burns is a family nurse practitioner. She specializes in trauma plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her patient-centered approach to care includes a focus on holistic treatment, which involves treating the whole patient — including their physical, mental and emotional needs — not just a particular condition.
"In the trauma setting, patients have a vast range of needs, from medical to psychosocial. Given the vast range of needs, continuity of care is especially important," Burns says. "As a nurse practitioner, I can provide this continuity of care in meeting patients’ medical and psychosocial needs throughout their entire trauma recovery."
Burns loves being a nurse practitioner because it gives her the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of patients. "The impact, be it small and large, is often important," she says. "Trauma victims are a uniquely vulnerable population that requires specialized medical treatment. Being able to help patients through complex traumatic injuries keeps me humble and motivated to continue doing what I love."
Burns began her nursing career as a registered nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at University of Maryland Medical Center. Early in her nurse practitioner career, she worked in the emergency medicine and surgical oncology specialties.
Burns is a graduate of University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore.
