Academic Innovation in Cancer Care

At the University of Maryland Medical System, every breakthrough is about more than just defeating cancer—it’s about giving you your life back.
With six cancer centers across Maryland, we are committed to providing Marylanders with the highest level of cancer care and transforming lives.
At the heart of our network of cancer centers is the UM Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC), a National Cancer Institute (NCI) - designated comprehensive cancer center.
Each of our community cancer centers is connected to UMGCCC, extending world-class cancer care across the state. It means your treatments as well as participation in select clinical trials can take place close to home.
From adult to childhood cancer, our extensive expertise allows us to treat the most advanced cancer types and offer the most cutting-edge treatments.
Shaping the Future of Cancer Care
As one of the top-tier cancer centers in the country, UMGCCC is pioneering groundbreaking research, developing new treatments and training the next generation of cancer specialists.
Its long history of advancing innovative research and clinical care in every facet of oncology enabled UMGCCC to become a national leader in accelerating the development and adoption of immunotherapies. Immunotherapy, which uses your immune system to attack cancer, is one of today’s most promising treatments for certain advanced cancers. It has succeeded in targeting specific cancers where other treatments have failed.
UMGCCC was among the first in the US to be certified to offer CAR T-cell therapy– a breakthrough therapy proving to stop cancer in its tracks – to treat lymphoma, multiple myeloma and leukemia. There is hope that CAR T will be available for the treatment of more cancers in the future.
Clinical trials help identify the best ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer, leading to better outcomes, fewer side effects and more hope. UMGCCC lead multiple studies and clinical trials to help make cell-based immunotherapies more effective, safer and more available. Learn how a clinical trial might benefit your cancer treatment.
