UMMS Pharmacy Services provides specialty medications and support for the unique needs (including prescription authorization, co-pay assistance and personalized consultation) of patients with chronic, complex or rare health conditions. Such conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Cancer
  • Crohn's disease
  • HIV
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Psoriasis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Ulcerative colitis

Our Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) specialty pharmacy accreditation speaks to the high-quality care we provide to our patients.

How We Can Help

In addition to educating you about your medications (including possible side effects and drug interactions) and making sure you know how and when to take it, our specialty pharmacy care team:

  • Coordinates with your health insurer to handle prior authorizations
  • Helps you find alternative coverage or financial assistance, if needed
  • Provides refill reminders
  • Schedules free prescription delivery to your home
  • Communicates with and updates your health care provider on medication-related matters
  • Regularly reviews your list of medications to prevent or monitor significant drug interactions
  • Monitors and makes recommendations about immunizations based on your past and current medical history

Typically, patients who need specialty medications must follow special handling and administration techniques as well as dosing instructions. Specialty medications cost more and generally require more coordination between patients, physicians and pharmacists than traditional medications.

Our specialty pharmacy does more than fill your prescriptions in a timely manner. We ensure you have the resources and support needed to afford your medication, get the most from your treatment and best manage your condition.
