Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation
Patients with heart disease or who have undergone cardiac surgery can benefit greatly from outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. The UM Rehab Network offers a variety of programs to help you safely achieve and maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle and reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease.
Our multidisciplinary team of specialists includes board-certified cardiologists, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, dieticians and health care educators. Our program is centered on helping you achieve your individual health goals. To do this, we evaluate your physical capabilities and limitations and develop a rehabilitation program tailored specifically to your cardiovascular health needs. Rehabilitation is conducted in a safe and supportive setting, and we actively monitor the heart rate and blood pressure of those who are new to the program.
At the UM Rehab Network, we know that rehabilitation is only the first step toward a healthier you, so we offer support groups, like the Healthier Hearts Club, and education sessions on a variety of topics, including understanding coronary heart disease, blood pressure and cholesterol reduction, smoking cessation, home exercise information, nutritional counseling and more.
Pulmonary Rehab
A structured rehabilitation-focused exercise program can improve the quality of life and overall health of patients living with COPD, asthma, emphysema, cystic fibrosis or other pulmonary conditions. UM Rehabilitation Network offers a specialized pulmonary rehabilitation program to help individuals improve their ability to function and increase their physical endurance, enhance their ability to perform daily living skills, reduce lifestyle-related risks, and increase knowledge of pulmonary disease and prevention.
Our specialty support groups, like the Better Breathers Club, and education classes provide patients with skills and knowledge to live healthier, more active lives. Education topics include breathing retraining, energy conservation, smoking cessation, blood pressure and cholesterol reduction and more.
