For ACE Clinical Instructors
Clinical instructors for the UMMS Academy of Clinical Essentials (ACE) teach cohorts on their own units or in their own UMMS hospital. The cohorts are paired with the same instructor for the entire semester.
This improves the clinical education experience by:
- Eliminating the need for the ACE instructor to acclimate to the unit, patient population, policies and care delivery team
- Integrating the ACE instructor into their own network of team members
- Embedding the ACE student cohort into the fabric of care delivery on this unit for a full 12.5-hour shift
- Offers an option to nurses who are passionate about teaching nursing students but don't want to do it full-time
Criteria for ACE Instructors
- At least two years of clinical nursing experience post-completion of onboarding in the two years immediately preceding application
- Must be able to competently care for a full patient assignment on the unit where they will serve as a clinical instructor
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required
- Must have earned a rating of "Meets Expectations" in the year preceding application (a rating of "Exceeds" for the year immediately preceding ACE application is preferred)
- Prior teaching experience preferred but not required
- Must meet specific requirements of the school of nursing to qualify to provide clinical instruction
- Must be willing to complete any necessary onboarding by the school of nursing to provide clinical instruction for that particular school
