The University of Maryland Medical System’s (UMMS) credit rating has been affirmed as A2 with a stable outlook from Moody’s Investors Service for the System’s upcoming Series 2025 bond issuance. Moody’s rating reflects a recognition of UMMS’ strong financial management, sound strategy and the System’s overall fiscal responsibility.

We see this strong rating as a particularly notable achievement, especially when considering the significant challenges faced by many health systems nationally,” said Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer of UMMS. “To earn this rating, organizations must demonstrate to analysts with deep expertise in health care that our finances are strong, our strategy is sound and that our approach to management and governance is sound.”

The rating will be in place for the System’s upcoming bond financing to advance several strategically important projects, including the Regional Medical Center in Easton on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine now under construction at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s downtown campus in Baltimore.

“This rating is further proof of the unique partnership we have with the State of Maryland and the value that public-private partnerships deliver for the citizens of Maryland,” Dr. Suntha added.
