Volunteers and hospital employees participated in a mock mass casualty drill at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) on September 14, 2022.

University of Maryland Capital Region Health and Hope Connections have partnered to provide cancer support services to better serve cancer patients in Prince George's County and the surrounding area.

The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center will host its 32nd annual Shock Trauma Heroes Celebration, honoring more than 40 trauma professionals and first responders who worked together to save the life of a 51-year-old highway construction worker whose legs were crushed when he was struck by a car on I-95 and pinned against his truck.

Khalid Kurtom, MD, FAANS, FACS, neurosurgeon with University of Maryland Shore Medical Group and Medical Director of System Operations at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, has been reappointed to the volunteer faculty of University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) and promoted to the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor. 

The University of Maryland Shore Regional Health Board of Directors recently welcomed seven new members: Cassie Burton, PhD; Kenny Kreiser; Robert Roth, JD; Kim Herman, MD; Jane Wang, MD; and University of Maryland Medical System senior leaders Kristin Jones-Bryce, JD and Michelle Lee, CPA. The Board’s composition includes representatives from the five counties served by UM Shore Regional Health, the regional physician community and UMMS.

The hospital is donating 600 refillable water bottles and more than 1,100 school supplies to public school students in Anne Arundel County. These donations are part of our larger effort to support the health and wellbeing of our community, starting with some of our youngest.

Following a successful pilot of its innovative Academy of Clinical Essentials (ACE) initiative which puts a cohort of nursing students at the bedside under instruction of an experienced hospital-based nurse, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is preparing to welcome its first full class of nursing students as the initiative expands to more locations across Maryland.

The University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (UM CRMC) is proud to announce the three-year certification of its Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), which recognizes the hospital's commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by meeting and exceeding national standards of care.

To promote early detection of prostate cancer, the Cancer Program at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health plans to offer free prostate screenings in Chestertown and Easton in September.

Jameel Shareef, DO, a physician with advanced training in internal medicine and digestive disorders, has joined the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Group – Gastroenterology practice as the team of clinical providers continues to grow to meet the needs of the region's patients.
