Dental Services
In addition to preventive dentistry, our services include the placement of fillings, inlays and crowns as well as prosthetic services and minor periodontal and orthodontic services.
As needed, patients who require more complex dental care have on-site access to UM Rehab's surgical suites.
Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Care for Special Needs Patients
Our board-certified pediatric dentists strive to make dental visits a positive experience for all kids.
Because of their experience, training, and passion for serving the needs of all, our team can extend care to special needs children and adults who may otherwise have difficulty accessing the kind of services they need.
The clinic is accessible to those with disabilities and different needs. This includes offering general anesthesia for patients who need a higher level of sedation or working with patients while they are in their wheelchairs.
Our services include
Diagnostic and Preventive Dental Care
While our team members are experts at restoring damages to the teeth, the goal is always to prevent them. Our preventive and diagnostic services include:
- Preventive: scaling, polishing, fluoride applications, sealants and diet counseling
- Diagnostic: X-rays, pulp testing and biopsies
Restorative Dentistry
Our dental team will create a treatment plan to restore teeth that may be decayed, broken, discolored or missing. The services we offer include:
- Fillings: composite and amalgam and inlays
- Crowns: stainless steel, cast, porcelain and composite
- Bridges: bonded and fixed bridges
- Dentures: partial and complete removable dentures
Periodontal Dentistry
Inflammation and bleeding due to bacterial infection in the gums are often the first signs of gum disease. Early intervention with conservative treatments, such as scaling, can often prevent more problems in the future. Our periodontal services include:
- Scaling and root planing: sometimes called deep cleaning
- Periodontal surgery: gingival curettage and gingivectomy
Dental Insurance and Medicaid
We accept a wide range of private dental insurance plans as well as Medicaid. Private plans that we accept include (but are not limited to):
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Delta Dental
- Medicaid Dental Coverage
Most disabled children have their health insurance through the Maryland Medicaid Program. Eligible children have full dental coverage (preventive, restorative, diagnostic) up to age 21. People over 21 with Medicaid have different levels of coverage depending on their managed care organization.
Along with the University of Maryland Dental School, UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute Dental Service is one of the largest providers of dental care for the Maryland Medicaid Program.
