DAISY AT UM Shore Regional Health
Any UM Shore Regional Health or UM Shore Medical Group nurse who has made a special connection with a patient or family can be nominated for the DAISY Award.
UM Shore DAISY Committee members meet monthly to choose an honoree, who will receive a special treat and prizes.
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses honors the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), an auto-immune disease. His family, profoundly impressed by the clinical skills and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, created this international award to show gratitude for nurses everywhere.
Anyone can nominate a UM Shore Regional Health nurse for the DAISY Award, including patients, families, and fellow nurses and health care providers. Complete the nomination form online at or pick up a paper copy of the form at the nurses’ stations.
Monthly UM Shore DAISY Winner
Pamela Callahan Fahrman, RN (April 2024 DAISY Honoree)
Congratulations to April’s DAISY nurse – Pamela Callahan Fahrman, RN, who works in the Birthing Center! Fahrman was nominated by one of her patients for the exceptional care she received.
The nomination read:
“I haven’t had many stays or time spent in the hospital, but what little time I have, I have never had a nurse or met a person like Pam. It clearly shows Pam loves what she does and made my whole birth experience a good one. Birth can be a scary, stressful, not very easy time, but she made it far from that. Pam was very professional but also very comforting. She was attentive to me and my husband. She was with me every step of the way, encouraging me, comforting me, and not letting me give up. If I get the chance to do this again, I hope I get Pam. She made me feel like I was the only patient there. Even after the baby was born and she was unfortunately no longer my nurse, she came in to say hello, see the baby and check on me. She came in to say goodbye when it was our time to go home. There are few in the world like Pam and she will forever hold a special place in my heart. Shore Regional Health is lucky to have a nurse like her. Pam is a special person and even more special nurse. I couldn’t thank her enough for the experience she gave me. I hope every mother in the Birthing Center gets a nurse just like Pam.”
As part of winning the DAISY award, Fahrman will be internationally recognized on the DAISY website. She also received a certificate, a DAISY pin and a “Healer’s Touch” Statue. As tradition holds, Fahrman and her team were also treated to cinnamon rolls.
