UM SMG Women’s Health and Pediatrics Teams Help Revitalize Downtown Park

Team members from UM Shore Medical Group Women's Health and Pediatrics practices recently joined forces to spruce up and replenish the flower gardens within the Town of Easton Parks and Recreation's Idlewild Park children's play area in downtown Easton.
OB/GYN physician Audrey Drummey, MD, came up with the idea to enhance the appearance of the park where community members and their children go to enjoy a nice walk, picnic lunch or playtime. SMG -Women's Health certified nurse midwives joined in to help plan the details and determine what the plants needed. SMG – Pediatrics providers also signed on to the project – a natural fit, since many SMG – Pediatrics patients and their parents frequent Idlewild Park. The Pediatrics team helped not only to plan the project, but to supply items that were needed.
With the help of generous donations and discounts from the Town of Easton and Lowe's in Easton, the two teams revitalized six flower boxes and beds with compost, perennial plants and mulch. In addition to revitalizing and planting the flower boxes and beds, the teams also helped weed, rototill, mulch, water and clean up the garden. The clean-up crew also included SMG – Women's Health and Pediatrics team members' families.
Members of the Town of Easton Parks and Recreation staff were also on site to assist throughout the morning. The Parks and Rec staff said that it had been 12 years since anything like this had taken place at the play area of the park.
"Ultimately, we saw that some of the smallest services have the biggest impacts," said Jessica Kunz, practice manager, SMG – Women's Health. "We're already planning another project for spring 2022."
