Chesapeake Grove Intergenerational Center to Host Dinner Presentation on Breast Cancer on October 30

"Early Diagnosis & Living Beyond Breast Cancer" is the focus of a special presentation set for Monday, October 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chesapeake Grove Intergenerational Center, 108 Chesapeake Street in Cambridge.

Presented by Roberta Lilly, MD, Medical Director of UM Shore Regional Health's Clark Comprehensive Breast Center and Rashmi Benda, MD, Medical Director of Requard Radiation Oncology Center in the Cancer Center at UM Shore Regional Health, the presentation will discuss current recommendations for breast cancer screening as well as lifestyle choices that reduce the risk of breast cancer and breast cancer recurrence.

Breast cancer, which affects one out of eight American women in their lifetime, is the number two cause of cancer death among all women, and the leading cause of death among black and Hispanic women. Education about risks and early detection are key to survival from breast cancer, and today there are there are 4.1 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.

Current recommendations for breast cancer screening recommend that women aged 40 and above undergo annual mammography screening. Last year, more than 16,000 mammograms were conducted in diagnostic facilities throughout the five-county region served by UM Shore Regional Health.
