Mary Alice Vanhoy, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, NRP, FAEN, Nurse Manager, University of Maryland Shore Emergency Center (UM SEC) at Queenstown, has been elected to the board of directors of the Academy of Emergency Nursing (AEN) for a two-year term. UM SEC at Queenstown is part of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), which is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.
The mission of the AEN is to recognize and promote significant sustained excellence in emergency nursing in collaboration with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). The AEN was established to honor emergency nurses who make enduring, substantial contributions to emergency nursing; advance the profession of emergency nursing and provide visionary leadership.
A fellow of the AEN since 2014, Vanhoy was the first member from Maryland. During her tenure, she has focused on mentorship in the areas of leadership and educator growth. As a board member, Vanhoy will continue to advance the mission and vision of the organization while mentoring the next generation of emergency nurses.
"It is an honor to represent the 200 emergency nurses of the AEN internationally who are recognized as leaders in emergency nursing care," said Vanhoy. "Mary Alice's leadership and expertise in emergency nursing has been an asset to Shore Regional Health for over 30 years. We are proud to have her as a member of our leadership team," said Jenny Bowie, Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services, and Chief Nursing Officer.
