Milford Mace “Mickey” Foxwell, MD, and Ida Jane Baker, distinguished lifelong residents of Dorchester County, were honored in memoriam at a reception on October 27, 2022 at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Cambridge.

The UM Shore Medical Center at Cambridge just received a new, automatic cardiopulmonary resuscitation machine for its Emergency Department. The machine, called the LUCAS Device, cost more than $16,000 and its purchase was funded by the Dorchester General Hospital Foundation. 

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) will visibly demonstrate support for the state's veterans this week by illuminating all of its hospitals in green. Each evening, as part of the national Operation Green Light initiative, member hospitals will literally shine the light on veterans and available resources to help them transition into civilian culture.

During the last week of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bosom Buddies Charities presented a gift of $28,000 to UM Memorial Hospital Foundation to benefit the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center. Presented by Bosom Buddies Charities Chair Claudia Boldyga, the donation supports the purchase of a new Terason ultrasound system used in diagnosing breast cancer and other breast conditions.

Renovations are now underway at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown’s medical office building, as the hospital advances its plans to establish a dedicated Aging & Wellness Center. The first phase of the project concentrates primarily on the second floor, making room for the relocation of several specialty practices (now located at Philosopher’s Terrace in Chestertown) at the end of this year.

Maryann Ruehrmund, Executive Director, UM Chester River Health Foundation, has been recertified as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) by CFRE International. Ruehrmund joins over 5,500 professionals around the world who hold the CFRE designation.

Team members at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown joined forces last week to highlight October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Representatives of The Leh Women’s Center, The Chester River Health Foundation, Rural Health Care Transformation, Radiology, Mobile Wellness and Surgery were on hand for a brief ceremony at the “pink ribbon tree” in Chestertown’s Memorial Park. The tree was chosen and decorated with assistance from the Chestertown Garden Club and the Town of Chestertown.

The Orthopedic Center, a partner of UM Shore Regional Health, has welcomed two new providers, Michael J. Foster, MD, and Sheila Taylor, DO.

The Birthing Center at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton has installed a “Welcome Baby” birth announcement board that parents can use to document the arrival of their newborn with a photo.

The Board of Directors of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) has approved a plan by UM Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) to submit a Letter of Intent next month to the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) to construct a new Regional Medical Center in Talbot County.
