Guest Commentary: Transformation Continues at Shore Medical Center in Chestertown

As many in the communities that we serve know, Shore Medical Center in Chestertown is in the process of dramatic transformation and revitalization for the future of healthcare delivery. With the support of our parent organization, the University of Maryland Medical System, and University of Maryland Shore Regional Health leadership, Chestertown's Rural Health Care Transformation Team has identified several goals and strategies to deliver this transformation. Today, I am happy to announce an important milestone: the hospital's designation as a Level 1 Age Friendly Health System (AFHS).

 

UMMS Offers Ingredients For A Safe Thanksgiving

Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and people traveling via planes, trains and automobiles, experts from the University of Maryland Medical System are sharing advice to help Marylanders celebrate safely amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Most importantly, doctors say the most important thing individuals can do to protect against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe, effective and free.

UM Shore Regional Health Announces Central Scheduling Phone and Fax Number Change

Effective Monday, November 8, 2021, the telephone and fax numbers for the scheduling of patient imaging and radiology services will be changed. Services such as ultrasounds, mammograms, MRIs, and CT scans, currently scheduled using 410-822-1000, ext. 2600, will be scheduled by phone at 443-225-7474 or through fax at 410-822-0433.

Opening Ceremony at UM Shore Regional Health at Cambridge Marks New Era of Health Care in Dorchester County

University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) celebrated the opening of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Cambridge on Tuesday, October 26, with an outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony on-site at Cambridge Marketplace on Rte. 50/Ocean Gateway. The opening of the $53 million, state-of-the-art facility, which has been under construction since January 2020, marks the beginning of a new era of expanded access to quality health care services for Dorchester County residents.

Primary Stroke Center at Easton Earns Honors from American Heart Association

University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton’s Primary Stroke Center recently was notified by the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association (ASA) that it has received the Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award with Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. The award recognizes the hospital’s achievement in providing the most effective stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence and for its commitment to prioritizing quality care for stroke patients.

At age 17, when Elisa Lawson worked in the bra department at Stewart’s Department Store in Baltimore, little did she know her experience would lead her to help hundreds of women on Maryland’s Eastern Shore recovering from breast cancer. As a Certified Prosthesis Specialist and owner of The Women’s Health Boutique, Lawson provides breast cancer patients across multiple health care systems with post-mastectomy garments, prosthetics and swimwear, including at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health’s Clark Comprehensive Breast Center in Easton.
