The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) today announced a $1.2 million commitment to address food insecurity issues in the communities across the state which are served by the organization’s 13 hospitals. 

The Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) has declared a blood shortage emergency and is asking people across the state to donate blood to help replenish blood supplies.

Members of the Chester River Yacht & Country Club organized and participated in the sixth annual Pink Polar Bear Golf Tournament on Sunday, July 25, raising $2,610 to benefit patients served in the Eleanor & Ethel Leh Women’s Center at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. This year’s event attracted 84 club members.

Michele A. Domenick, MD has joined the UM Shore Medical Group – Surgical Care practice serving the general surgery care needs of Kent and northern Queen Anne’s counties.

Following a week-long renovation and refresh, UM Shore Medical Center at Easton recently unveiled its newly renovated "Easton Marketplace," replacing the traditional cafeteria, a project completed with the hospital's partner, Morrison Healthcare. The grand opening included a ribbon-cutting led by Diane Baltimore, a University of Maryland Shore Regional Health Food and Nutrition Services and Easton Marketplace team member who has worked with the hospital system for 14 years.

Emily Uyttewaal, RN, of Easton, was named winner of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health 2021 Nurse of the Year Award in a recent award presentation conducted by UM SRH President and CEO Ken Kozel. 

Beth Gross, MS, ACNP, has joined UM Shore Medical Group – Gastroenterology. She is the latest provider to join the Gastroenterology practice, which also includes Hamza Abdulla, MD, George Kunnackal John, MD, Volkan Taskin, MD, Matthew Troshinsky, MD, Melissa Eigenbrode, CRNP, and Mary Horseman, CRNP.

The University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, in partnership with area churches and community organizations, has scheduled a number of free first-dose COVID-19 walk-up vaccine clinics during July and August.
