About the Cancer Institute
Our Vision
"In oncology care, we treat the whole patient, not just the cancer."
The Cancer Institute at UM St. Joseph Medical Center provides the highest quality of cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship to patients in our community. A formal affiliate of the nationally renowned University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, we work to extend and enhance the quality of the lives of our cancer patients in a faith-based environment.
The Care Team
The Cancer Institute is dedicated to providing patient-centered care. Our physicians, nurses and clinical staff offer exceptional, individualized care with compassion as they guide patients and families through one of the most difficult journeys of their lives. Our providers are board certified in their areas of cancer specialty and are highly trained. Many of our nurses are oncology-certified nurses (OCN.)
Working closely with medical and nursing staff, nurse navigators guide patients through every step of their cancer journey. After meeting with newly diagnosed patients, the navigators provide personalized education, support and referrals to onsite and community services and support groups.
Our Multidisciplinary Approach
At the UM St. Joseph Cancer Institute, each physician has expertise in a specific disease site, yet all share a commitment to multidisciplinary--or a team approach to--cancer care.
All new cancer patients are seen and evaluated by a team that includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists and radiologists to discuss every aspect of each diagnosis. This thorough approach means each patient's medical, social and personal history is reviewed by a team of experts. Together, drawing on their collective experience and expertise, our team works to develop the best treatment plans to meet all patients' individual needs.
