Departmental Scope of Services
WOC nursing plays an integral role in supporting the staff of St. Joseph Medical Center who plan the care of patients with wounds/pressure ulcers, ostomies and continence-related issues.
Types of Patients Served
Patients with:
- Colostomy
- Ileostomy
- Urostomy
- Surgical wounds/incisions
- Pressure ulcers
- Fistulae
- Other chronic wounds such as venous, arterial and diabetic ulcers
- Acute wounds such as skin tears, burns, blisters and perineal dermatitis
Overview of Department Services
WOC nursing conducts daily inpatient rounds in responding to nurse referrals. E-mails and telephone consults are also utilized. Current protocols and product formularies for wound, ostomy and continence care are available online.
There is also the Center for Advanced Wound Care at UM St. Joseph Medical Center with a staff of certified Wound and Ostomy Nurses that can continue your care past discharge and provide these services for the community with wound and continence-related issues.
