UM SJMC Mourns the Loss of Edward J. Gilliss
University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center mourns the loss of Edward J. Gilliss, a steadfast ally and past board chair of UM St. Joseph Medical Center, passed away on December 22. Throughout his career and personal life, Ed has been lauded as a man of great integrity, kindness and professionalism.
Ed showed exceptional dedication to UM St. Joseph, exhibiting the highest ideals of excellence, reverence, commitment and adherence to the values of our hospital. Ed, along with his fellow members of the UM St. Joseph Operating Board from 2012 thru 2018 were bold community visionaries. They led UM St. Joseph through a critical chapter in our history. In unprecedented times, with Ed at the helm, they gave their time and talent to an extraordinary degree. At the end of this tumultuous chapter, and thanks in large part to Ed Gillis’s courageous leadership, UM St. Joseph became a proud member of the University of Maryland Medical System -- a truly transformative moment for our organization.
In addition to his role at UM St. Joseph, Ed also served our community as a former Baltimore County Attorney and Baltimore County School Board chair.
We celebrate that Ed is now in God’s loving arms. Please keep the entire Gilliss family in your prayers.
