The Hackerman-Patz House at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center provides a warm, compassionate home-like setting for patients, families and travelers coming from outside our service area, where daily travel to and from home is a hardship.
Thanks to the generosity of Willard and Lillian Hackerman, the house is a natural extension of our founding caregivers' mission to provide loving services and compassionate care.
Originally built to keep family members close together in times of illness, the Hackerman-Patz House offers an affordable, comfortable alternative to a hotel or long-distance travel for patients and their caregivers. The guest house is also a welcoming and easily accessible place to stay for businesspeople, visiting university faculty or speakers, parents of local students, and others, and its rate of $60 plus tax (for a total of $69.30) per night is substantially lower than that of area hotels.
The house is designed with common areas where guests can gather in fellowship, share a meal and relax. All guests are welcome to use the kitchen facility, great room, and multi-purpose room. During warmer months, the outdoor patios and gardens provide comfortable spaces to enjoy the fresh air.
Our fully furnished suites offer your choice of a king-size bed or two twin beds, and every room features a private full bath, an in-room kitchenette and a television. A roll-away bed is available upon request. Guests also have access to laundry and vending facilities and an on-site business center.
Located in suburban Towson, the St. Joseph campus is less than a mile away from many dining, shopping and entertainment options.
All are welcome to reserve guest house rooms, though preference is given to family and friends of UM St. Joseph patients.
Guest registrations are accepted during our normal hours of operation:

The Hackerman-Patz House offers affordable guest lodging and a supportive community environment for families and patients in their time of need, when they may be miles away from the comforts of home.
Thanks to the lead gift-in-kind of Willard and Lillian Hackerman, the Hackerman-Patz House affords University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center the opportunity to provide another facet of loving service and compassionate care to patients and families. Through guest fees, fundraising efforts, special friends and your donation, the Hackerman-Patz House will be able to continue its service to the community for years to come.
