Bariatric Surgery Recovery
The UM Upper Chesapeake Health Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Program provides pre- and post-operative support, helping you make lifestyle changes that will get you ready for surgery and help you be successful afterwards. Most of our patients recover from surgery within three weeks, typically losing 15 to 20 pounds per month for the first three months.
Pre-Surgery
The biggest hurdle for most patients is learning how to eat and drink slowly. This eating process can take at least two weeks to master which is why patients are encouraged to begin practicing this prior to surgery. Our bariatric specialists will work with you on this eating approach so that you are successful after surgery.
Post-Surgery
Patients are out of bed and walking around on the day of surgery and are generally discharged the next day. Initial post-op visit is 7-10 days after surgery.
