Breast Center
Our Breast Center is where quality care and compassion combine to create an individualized experience for women who need a mammogram or are seeking treatment and support services for breast health concerns. We have the physician experts, including a fellowship-trained breast surgeon, general surgeons, a breast navigator and other specialists to guide you through the process.
3D Mammogram
In addition to traditional two-dimensional mammography, our Breast Center offers 3D Mammography. This technology produces multiple images of the breast tissue that, when combined with traditional 2D technology, can help radiologists identify breast abnormalities and improve cancer detection rates. It is appropriate for all screening and diagnostic mammography patients and may be especially helpful for women who have either very dense breast tissue or a personal or family history of breast cancer.
Many insurance plans cover the cost of 3D mammography, and our Breast Center team will help verify your coverage.
If we find something...what's next?
Although frightening, most abnormalities on an initial mammogram are not cancer. But when there is an abnormal finding, our care team will meet with you to discuss your options. Our goal is to work together to provide you with the most individualized and up-to-date treatment possible.
Depending on what the abnormality is, we may recommend one or more of the following diagnostic tests:
Diagnostic Mammogram
A diagnostic mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to diagnose unusual breast changes, such as a lump, pain, nipple thickening or discharge, or a change in breast size or shape. It may be used to evaluate changes found during a screening mammogram.
Breast Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to image the breast and see whether a breast lump is filled with fluid (cyst) or if it is a solid lump. An ultrasound does not replace the need for a mammogram; it is often used along with a mammogram to evaluate a problem in the breast.
Breast MRI
This is a non-invasive MRI that uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor, transmitted electronically, printed or copied to a CD. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (X-rays). MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that cannot be obtained by other imaging tests, such as mammography or ultrasound.
Breast Biopsy
We are a comprehensive Breast Center, meaning that all screening, follow-up treatment and diagnostic services necessary can be done in one location. This includes breast biopsies. A breast biopsy is a procedure in which samples of breast tissue are removed with a special biopsy needle or during surgery to determine if cancer or other abnormal cells are present. Biopsies may be performed under local or general anesthesia. There are several types of breast biopsy procedures, and the type performed will depend upon the location and size of the lump or abnormality.
Treatment
When detected early, breast cancer is extremely treatable and surgery is usually the first step in your care plan. From all stages of treatment, including breast reconstruction and recovery, we bring you everything you need in one high quality, convenient location.
