You can schedule your routine screening mammogram at our Breast Center, where we offer both the traditional two-dimensional mammography as well as more advanced 3D mammography. This helps radiologists identify any abnormalities and improves cancer detection rates.
If your mammogram results require further testing, we offer ultrasounds and MRIs at our Breast Center. If needed, you’ll get a breast biopsy – a procedure in which samples of breast tissue are removed with a special biopsy needle or during surgery to determine if cancer or other abnormal cells are present.

Treatment for breast cancer typically includes surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. We provide an advanced form of radiation therapy called brachytherapy that uses thin tubes to deliver radiation with extreme precision. This keeps the surrounding tissue from getting damaged during treatment.
Surgical options include a lumpectomy (the tumor and surrounding tissue are removed), single mastectomy (one breast is removed) and double mastectomy (both breasts are removed). Our surgeons use a technology that helps them better locate the cancer cells for lumpectomies so more healthy tissue remains intact. This SAVI SCOUT® technology lets surgeons mark and target the tumors better, resulting in higher success rates and faster recovery time.
You also have access to proton therapy at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center, which uses targeted therapy to attack tumors without damaging surrounding tissue.
Your care team will recommend surgery based on how far your cancer has progressed, as well as your overall health. You may opt for breast reconstruction surgery as well.
Our breast cancer team includes specialists from surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation therapy. They work together to develop the best treatment plan and care for your cancer.
