Medical oncologists are cancer specialists who oversee general cancer care and coordinate treatments with other specialists. Often, they are the main care provider for someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. At the Kaufman Cancer Center, our Upper Chesapeake Hematology/Oncology practice consists of six highly experienced medical oncologists and four specialty specific nurse practitioners who work as a team to guide the patient’s care by assessing initial test results, making recommendations if additional testing is needed, developing and managing a plan of care and corresponding course of treatment. They are the physicians in charge of long-term care including regular checkups after treatment.
