University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health offers comprehensive, 24/7 emergency services at both its Harford County hospitals. Our experienced and highly skilled team of physicians and nurses treat every patient in as timely a manner as possible in a comfortable healing environment.

What to Expect at the ER: Our priority is to treat each person in our emergency rooms as fully, safely and quickly as possible. Please know, however, that you will not be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Those patients with the most serious conditions are seen first. Learn more about what to expect at the ER.
Services
Pediatric Emergency Care
At UM UCMC Bel Air, emergency pediatric care is available 24/7 from an experienced care team specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine and advanced life support. We have pediatric hospitalists onsite at all times to support the emergency department and care for our pediatric patients.
At UM UCMC Aberdeen, we treat all ages, but if a child required a higher level of care, we will transfer them to the nearest pediatric specialty facility.
Psychiatric Services
Behavioral health specialists are available at UM UCMC Bel Air to evaluate patients who have come to the emergency department with psychiatric care needs. In addition to the ER, Klein Family Center offers support is available 24/7 by calling 800-NEXT-STEP (800-639-8783), and its walk-in urgent care clinic in Bel Air is open 9 am - 9 pm, 7 days a week. Compassionate care is also provided at the Behavioral Health Pavilion at Aberdeen.
SAFE Rooms
Our UM UCMC Aberdeen emergency department has separate and private rooms for sexual assault victims. These rooms are equipped with a special camera documentation system. Sexual assault forensic nurse examiners are specially trained to collect evidence while meeting the emotional and physical needs of patients. Visitor Policy
In order to keep patients, staff and the community safe, University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) has put additional visiting restrictions into place. These include limiting our visiting hours and the number of people entering our facilities. See our visiting policy.
Express Transport Services
If you or your child need a higher level of critical care, the emergency physician may contact University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Transport Services to get you to the appropriate facility for care.
