At the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC), we've developed a robust research program to help improve the quality of life for people with cancer.
As one of about 50 U.S. comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute, our research programs are held to the highest standards. Our cancer investigators are dedicated to conducting groundbreaking cancer research we can take from the lab to the treatment clinic.
Our goals are to:
- Develop and apply innovative cancer treatments that are more effective and have fewer side effects
- Prevent cancer or detect it at an earlier stage Make these discoveries and strategies available to the Maryland community and beyond
Transforming Cancer Care With Innovative Research
Our cancer research covers a broad range of cancer types, treatments and care experiences. We'e achieved many advancements in cancer healthcare through research and clinical trials, including:
- Improving health equity by studying more accessible treatment regimens in radiation therapy
- Reaching better outcomes and reducing health disparities by using patient navigators to help with genetic testing
- Providing new, more effective treatment using immunotherapy, one of the most promising treatments for patients with advanced cancers, supported by our state-of-the-art cellular therapeutics laboratory
